American Shaolin Center (ASC)

ASC is CPB's martial arts organization, teaching members of the community Functional Martial Arts (FMA), Core Strength Training (CST) and Meditation through American Shaolin. American Shaolin is a synthesis of traditional Shaolin kung fu (gongfu) and advanced biomechanics and Western sports science. More information is available from ASC or email the head instructor, Jim Eubanks.

Ki Intervention LLC

OPB Novice Monk and Ki-Aikido instructor William Perkins Sensei (Li Rui) is president of Ki Intervention, LLC, a company dedicated to the exploration of cutting-edge techniques and strategies for self-defense and defensive tactics. Ki Intervention specializes in women's self-defense and risk reduction seminars, and provides scholarships to women who have needs but may not possess the means to attend.

  • Aden Albert

    Aden is cofounder of ASC's Furman University chapter, and is a designer for CPB and our quarterly publication, The Pragmatic Buddhist. In 2009 he redesigned the CPB website. Aden maintains a personal website.

  • Scott Ghelfi

    Scott is a graphic designer for CPB and Chan Crafts.

  • James C. Edwards, Ph.D.

    A teacher of Jim Eubanks, Dr. Edwards was an important influence on the goal of unifying Buddhism and American Pragmatism. He is a philosophy professor at Furman University and teaches Introduction to Philosophy, Ethics, and Twentieth Century Philosophy.

  • Mark Stone, Ph.D.

    Another teacher of Jim Eubanks, Mark Stone Sensei (also an instructor of Ki-Aikido) taught Jim American Philosophy (classical American pragmatism) while Jim was at Furman. Jim also had the opportunity to meditate with Stone Sensei, who is known for his disciplined approach to mindfulness.

  • Richard Rorty, Ph.D.

    Professor Rorty was perhaps the most important American philosopher of our time, revitalizing American Pragmatism through his energetic and inspiring views of personal and social betterment. His work resides at the heart of the Pragmatic Buddhist perspective, and we are grateful to have received his personal endorsement of our work prior to his passing.

  • Jim Sr. and Malinda Eubanks

    Parents of Jim Eubanks, Jim Sr. and Malinda have provided essential financial support for CPB. They have also contributed consistent encouragement.
